Internationally known, Christina is a Maitre Chef de Cuisine whose School of Food and Wine in Durban has the accolade of being one of the top training schools in the world. The Plough Restaurant, situated in the centre of De Rust is owned by Bill and Christina Martin, and specialises in South African cuisine with Christina making use of seasonal and organic produce wherever possible.

Long before the village was established in the 1900's, De Rust had already been a place to rest and relax before challenging the route through the Swartberg Mountain Range. The area is malaria-free, safe with a very low crime rate and fantastic climate - beautiful sunny winter days with cool nights. The town itself is peaceful and tree lined with excellent examples of late 19th century architecture.
